The Magic Circle
The Magic Circle
The Magic Circle (crop)
I’ve been researching and creating artworks about women who arrived in Australia in the early gold rush era …and I began to wonder about the women and secrets they may have had. Were any practising pagans and/or witches? Of course there must have been! So I’ve let my imagination run away and have created some goldfields witches artworks.
This goldfields witch is inspired by one of my favourite artworks, The Magic Circle, by John William Waterhouse. She meets herself under the full moon, under the watchful eye of her ravens. Casting the magic circle and brewing magic in her cauldron. This image is a composite image, shot on location in Bendigo, as well as incorporating bits of my paintings.
