I am enamoured with Dutch still life, Vanitas and Memento Mori sentiments. This is the third dramatic, larger than life piece I’ve created: this time with dark, rich pink, tones.
As well as rich florals, this artwork is thick with Vanitas-style meaning. Birds in still life represent the resurrection of the soul after death. Butterflies and dragonflies are symbols of transformation, and snails remind us to slow down. The skull reminds us to enjoy life now. A quiet night in is brimming with pieces a girl might enjoy when she has time to sit back and smell the roses.
